CREATIVE WRITING ANNOTATIONS
The form of poetry was chosen to render at best the delicacy and the harmony of falling in love and rediscovering the beauty of life. The verses are free and partially in rime. Overall, the structure is quite flexible: as the feeling descripted is highly irrational, this solution was preferred to a stricter composition in order to make the reader follow an irregular flow as if actually experiencing the moments depicted.
It should be noticed that the poem begins with an image of anger and sadness, the cold wind of December that wounds the nature, while it finishes with the verse “life would be sweeter”. This contrast perfectly summarizes the evolution of the feelings of the main character. As well, the fireworks can be identified as a metaphor of the strong and sudden emotion that the protagonist experiences; they are then followed by the new year, which stands for a new era of realization, mindfulness and happiness. Another metaphor that should be highlighted is the one of God, which stands for the image of Saint Paul’s Cathedral, dominating the Millennium bridge instilling awe in the observer.
I choose to portrait this feeling of new love for life because that is what I have been experiencing since moving to London: a completely new life away from my country, full of enthusiasm and thirst for new experiences. In this way, I included City of London sublimated in the emotion connected to it, other than in the setting of the poem.
VIDEO ANNOTATIONS
The theme of the video is the troubles of a love story that is gone to an end. The rose in the sink, which is starting to lose vigor and beauty, symbolizes the unilateral attempt to preserve love, in this case already destined to die. The setting is City of London at night. The city appears to be empty and cold as the lover explores it; sometimes it even appears out of focus or blurred, as the main character’s eyes are miserable when looking at a world without “her”. The nighttime was chosen to express at best the feelings descripted, and the choice of the soundtrack “Ain’t no Sunshine” by Bill Withers results to be the perfect complement to the piece. The decision to record the clips in black and white contributes to the final effect as well, other than giving to the piece an elegant vintage aesthetic that goes with the music. The original sounds of the clips in the borough were not kept in the final product in order to give them a more abstract halo, while they were, instead, in the clips of the sink even if very low, to create contrast and show more contact with the reality and the elaboration of the emotions into actions.
AUDIO ANNOTATIONS
I decided to experiment with a completely new style: ASMR, since I believe it’s a pure celebration of sound. I tried to make an accessible and entertaining narration of some interesting notions about the city, in order to create a product which could be a source of relaxation and education at the same time. I choose simplicity over complexity of the information for it to be enjoyable by every audience.
WEBSITE DESIGN ANNOTATIONS
For the aesthetic of the website, I selected a cool palette on the tones of gray and made a wide use of cursive. The theme selected is uncluttered and user friendly. The background image, a cloudy sky, is essential to give the site a melancholic connotation, which I believe matches all the works’ mood perfectly. Overall, the website and its content reflect on the emotion that are born or simply revolve around London in a personal perspective, so it is explained the choice of a romantic mood board – adjective intended in the end ‘700 meaning, as aming for a new evaluation of the irrational side of the human experience.
